I was given a sample of the bareMinerals Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Medium Beige to try out and put off trying it since I had a pretty negative experience with bareMinerals foundations previously. (Check out my foundation review here). Funnily enough, it has been quite an uphill task trying to getting myself shade matched. So after a few failed attempts,
and just when I was about to give up luck would have it that Sephora was giving out samples to customers waiting in line to pay, and the shade in the sample pack they were distributing was Medium Beige which turned out to be my shade.
Comparatively, the Original formula seems to give a slight glow to the skin while the Matte formula doesn’t. The claims to this product include flawless coverage with a naturally luminous finish that won’t clump or cake. It has also been proven to improve the appearance of skin over time. This talc-free, preservative-free and paraben-free loose powder-type foundation contain creamy minerals that diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles without drying out skin.
Firstly, I much prefer the finish of the Original formula compared with the Matte because of the luminous glow it renders to my skin. Everything just looks more radiant and skin-like. Perhaps my taste is changing with age since I have always preferred a slightly matte finish over dewy finishes. But the glow this formula gives my skin makes it appear somewhat healthier. Naturally, application is similar to the Matte formula since it is a loose powder format. Worn over the Benefit POREfessional primer, the Original formula, I find the Original forumla doesn’t emphasise large pores as much as the Matte or the READY foundation formula.
The Original foundation wears similar to the Matte formula and will separate (eventually) in the burning humid heat wave that we are currently experiencing in Singapore. Given the current heat wave we are experiencing, I think only waterproof makeup will hold up. So naturally, touch-ups will be required and it can be quite a pain to tote around a brush and to apply loose powder in public toilets. Nonetheless, this foundation will be great for people who are exposed to air-conditioned environments for about 80% of the time they wear this foundation, and it will wear for a good six hours. One thing to note, this foundation will oxidise so do choose your shade well.
