Yes, this is yet another lipstick post. This time, it is on the Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick.
These babies were launched in late 2012 and have been on the market ever since. With the deluge of lip products being introduced each season, I think one will be hard pressed to find a lipstick that one does not like. In truth, I have been eyeing these for some time now and never tried them out, always opting for newer releases instead.
Retailing for S$25 each, these Bourjois Rouge Edition lipsticks sit higher on the price spectrum amongst the drugstore lip products, and can be rather expensive to purchase for experimentation purposes. But, given the on-going Great Singapore Sale promotion, I got mine at a mere S$16 each and was a happy camper.
A quick check on the Bourjois website and it seems there are a total of 17 shades in this range (not in running numbers) comprising nudes, browns, corals, reds and plums.
I swatches them in the store and was happy to find they were creamy and richly pigmented. I’ve been on the hunt for an every-day lippie I can use for the office and I think the two shades I chose would be perfect for that occasion. The packaging is simple – a simple bullet contained within a sleek black plastic casing with a clear bottom displaying a true-to-colour shade sample.
Here are the product claims taken off the Bourjois UK website:
“Tested and approved by fashion editors! Shine wrapped colour with 10 hour hydration…
It’s ready to wear formula is enriched with ¼ of pure laque for a radiant, glossy finish and orchid blossom extract so it glides onto the lips leaving them feeling smooth, hydrated and protected for up to 10 hours. A “must-have” lipstick for every woman’s make-up bag. Tested and approved by fashion lovers. Available in 18 fashionable shades from natural nudes to pretty pinks, colour-blocking corals and classic reds, there are so many to choose from! A shade for every outfit and style! Stylish and sleek in design, it is the perfect fashion accessory for that trendsetting smile!”
I purchased two shades: #05 Brun boheme, a delicious light plum with gold glitter and #18 Violine straws, a dusty pink – swatches below.
Here are the two shades swatched on my lips, pardon my ugly chapped lips. I have fairly pigmented lips naturally, so #05 Brun Boheme ended up giving me the ‘my-lips-but-better’ result. I love, love, love, shade #18 Violine Strass which is a plum with faint golden sparkles that does not feel gritty when applied. It does take more effort to remove all the glitter from shade #18 though.
I think these lipsticks are great value for money, especially if you get them on sale. They are full colour and rich in pigmentation, glide on like silk and are super creamy. Upon application, the product feels soft and moisturising on the lips and doesn’t settle into fine lines. The two shades I chose have a slight satin/ sheen finish and there is no scent in the product, which is a huge bonus. Naturally with moisturising lippies, their longevity isn’t incredible so I don’t know about the product’s 10-hour claim but I know mine lasted about an average of four hours. In fact, I like these quite a fair bit and might be going back for a classic red and possibly a brighter pink shade.
Once again, thanks for reading!
